      Product Installation Volunteer - Isle of Wight

      When?

      This depends entirely on each individual volunteer and the time you are able to give.
      What will you be doing?
      As Product Installation Volunteer, you’ll perform the following tasks:
      • Deliver assistive equipment, such as smoke alarms designed especially for those with a hearing loss, to clients’ homes
      • Install the equipment for the client, checking if it is faulty
      • Perform follow up visits to make sure equipment is working and the client is satisfied
      • Collect the equipment if/when the client no longer needs it, returning it back to the office
      • Complete any necessary paperwork and return it to your volunteer manager
      • Promote the work of Sensory Service Isle of Wight
      • Follow Action on Hearing policies and regulations

      Why do we need you?

      Our range of assistive hearing products can make life with sensory loss easier. We need volunteers to assist with the delivery, installation and set-up of equipment, so that our clients can start using their new products with as much ease as possible.

      What skills do you need?

      Here’s what we think could be beneficial:
      • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, issues affecting people with a sensory loss
      • A genuine interest in working for charities
      • Good communicator and listener
      • Good interpersonal skills
      • Ability to communicate and work with a wide range of people
      • Friendly, reliable and approachable manner
      • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, assistive hearing equipment and how to install it

      Regular support will be given by your own Volunteer Manager, especially in the early stages of your role as you settle in. You will also receive informal support from other Action on Hearing Loss volunteers and staff as you work together.

      What training is offered?

      Action on Hearing Loss offers full, on-going training for all volunteers including an induction programme and further training specific to the volunteering role. For this role, the following training sessions are compulsory:
      • A one day induction to Action on Hearing Loss
      • A two hour session on Visual Impairment
      • A 30 minute online manual handling course
      • A 30 minute online course on Safeguarding adults and children
      • A two hour session on Equipment (how it works and the installation)
      • Some shadowing sessions with either staff or other volunteers

      • Expenses – all reasonable expenses incurred as a result of your volunteering will be reimbursed according to the Action on Hearing Loss expenses policy
      • Opportunity to try other volunteering roles locally with Action on Hearing if available

      Transport

      You may need to be able to travel locally, whether by car or public transport. All reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed, according to the Action on Hearing Loss Travel and Subsistence Policy.
