      Payroll giving FAQs

If your hearing isn't what it used to be, you're not alone. One in six people in the UK has hearing loss or is deaf, and more and more people are getting the help they need to hear better.

Q: How does payroll giving work?

A: Payroll giving is an easy and tax free way to give from your salary. All you need to do is fill in a short donation form. You can choose to donate any amount tax-free from your salary every month, which will help support our vital work. The donations are transmitted to us via a government-approved Payroll Giving Agency, and because it comes off your gross salary you will get immediate tax relief.

Q: How much will my donation cost me?

A: As the donation will be deducted from your gross salary, so before tax, for every £1 you give it only costs you 80p (or 60p if you are a higher rate tax payer).

Your pledge  Cost to basic rate taxpayer Cost to higher rate taxpayer
      £6.00 £4.80 £3.60
      £8.00 £6.40 £4.80
      £10.00 £8.00 £6.00
      £15.00 £12.00 £9.00
      £20.00 £16.00 £12.00

Q: What should I do if my employer doesn't have a Payroll Giving Scheme?

A: All your employer needs to do is register with a Payroll Giving Agency. Once you download our payroll giving form, fill it in and give it to your employer, they will find the instructions on how to set up a payroll giving scheme at the bottom of the form – alternatively they can visit HMRC payroll giving to find out more.

Q: How will I know Action on Hearing Loss has received my donation?

A: Your donation is important to us and once you join the scheme we will write to you to thank you.

Q: How do I increase, decrease or cancel my donation?

A: Your payroll department is responsible for any deductions taken from your pay, so if you would like to increase, decrease or cancel your donation you will need to notify them in writing.

Q: Who can I contact for further information?
