Product Description

One of the first signs of hearing loss is experiencing problems following conversations. Because of the complex rhythms and frequencies of speech and the interference of background noise, chatting to friends and family can often result in a lot of repetition as you strain to hear.

If you're looking for an assistive listening device to help out in these situations, the Sonido Conversation Amplifier (blue) offers exceptional sound quality and enhanced speech for anyone struggling to follow the flow of conversation.

The blue Sonido Conversation Amplifier is a portable amplification device that helps you hear things like conversations, the television and radio more clearly, whether you have a hearing aid or not. We helped influence the design of this product so we know it's great for people with hearing loss.

In order to complete the unit, a neckloop, headphones, stethoset or ear hooks needs to be added.

We know that the Sonido Conversation Amplifier is a fantastic addition to the life of someone suffering from hearing loss - becausse we helped design it.

The Sonido Conversation Amplifier is an outstanding personal listener that gives you excellent value for money. Using the same technology as a digital hearing aid, it gives exceptional digital sound quality, but at the fraction of the price of other digital listeners.

The tone control function allows you to adjust the bass and treble of the sound. This is useful because you can tailor it to suit your particular hearing loss.

Do you have a hearing aid or not?

If you wear a hearing aid then you will need to purchase a neckloop or earhook from the accessories listed below.  These plug into the Sonido and transfer the sound to your hearing aid - a bit like headphones. Just make sure your hearing aid has a T-setting.

If you don't have a hearing aid you need to plug in a pair of headphones or stethosets to hear the amplified sound. These can be purchased from the selection of accessories below.

Listening to the TV

The Sonido Conversation Amplifier comes with an extra microphone on a 5m long lead. This can be placed next to the TV to help you hear more clearly. The sound is sent straight to your ears and cuts out background noise. However, if you press the 'mic' button you will hear the TV and any other sounds in the room, while the button is pressed. When you release the 'mic' button, you will return to the plug-in sound. This is useful if you want to speak to someone while watching TV, or if you don't want to miss the phone or doorbell ringing. For the very best TV sound you can even buy a TV kit (see accessories below) which plugs directly into the TV.

Some features of the Sonido Conversation Amplifier:

  • Excellent for people who have trouble holding small things - it has an easy grip rubberised coating and a large, raised soft-touch buttons.
  • 5m long external microphone (included) allows you to amplify sounds direct from other sources, such as TV, radio or MP3 player.
  • Volume and tone control - useful for tailoring the bass and treble to your hearing loss
  • 150 hours' battery life - almost double that of most other listeners
  • Hinged battery cover for easy access
  • Battery status light
  • Clear LEDs show volume and tone
  • To protect your hearing, Sonido automatically switches to a lower volume setting when turned on
  • You can set the volume at different levels for each ear via a button in the battery compartment
  • T setting that even allows people who don't wear hearing aids to benefit from induction loops or test they are working

will Sonido be of significant help in a concert hall? ie , well away from the source of the sound

If the concert hall has a induction loop fitted then the Sonido should work fine as the unit will automatically pick up the audio from the loop as long as the Sonido is on the T setting mode.

Which type of batteries are used in this product please?

The type of batteries used in this unit are the AA type batteries which will be supplied with the unit". I hope this helps.

I have moderate hearing loss and wear 2 NHS Digital hearing aids with 'T' switches. When watching TV my wife complains the TV sound is too loud for her when the volume is adjusted to suit me. Which RNID set up would best overcome this problem..

The Sonido (order code L376) with the TV Kit (L333b) would certainly help you or alternatively you could install a complete loop system (order code L225).

Can you explain the difference between the stetoset and the neckloop? Thank you.

A stetoset is basically a form of headphones but is one where the plugs pop into your ear and hang down under the chin, rather than over your head, a little like a doctors stethoscope. A neckloop is like a necklace that hangs down from around your neck.

If I buy this product with TV kit, what length of cable is supplied please.

10 metre lead length. Hope this helps.

 Use in healthcare environment

Posted by Andrew on 24 May 2016

We have been using the SONIDO amplifiers for the past few years in our out-patient and community services. We have found them robust and effective. We've just re-ordered 25 units to ensure good availability across our community services in Your Healthcare CIC. We'll also order a batch of spare ear foam covers as these are the main point of wear on the units as a whole.

Very good if you are able to use it in a place where other people meet (eating etc).

For the past year I have found CD and DAB muffled, whilst a loop and T setting was clear, but too bright and tinny. The Sonido with it's very effective tone control solved both problems - thankyou.

This should be marketed more widely. Every health professional and worker with older people who sees it is very impressed that such a product exists. It has changed my dad's life.

 Do Not Hesitate!

Posted by Gareth on 03 May 2012

For anyone struggling to hear the television at a volume acceptable to others in the room, then this is one of the cheapest and simplest option. I have one hearing aid but, because of recurring infections, I am advised to wear it only when necessary! Not the best advice when the other 'good' ear is now also failing. For this reason I purchased the recommended earphones I als purchased a neck-loop which I have already tested and found to work very well on the T setting of my hearing aid. The biggest benefit for me though - and for my wife of course - is that with the head-phones, I can now hear the Television without any difficulty. I sit about 3 metres from the Television and have found no need to use the extra extended microphone that is provided. I can also see no need in my case to hard wire the device to the audio output of the television, this also has the benefit of still being able to have a conversation with those around me.

 Batteries flat on delivery

Posted by Gabrielle Drysdall]

Bought to use in Canada as about to visit some family. Seems useful on upstairs TV (Ihave room loop downstairs). Not so useful just on the table in front of people but an improvement. The batteries were flat when the product turned up.

 Belt clip

Posted by Elaine Webster

The belt clip we've found impossible to put on the device even after following the instructions. The T loop settings need to be explained a bit more - very confusing! It works well with my loop set up especially as my implants internal coil hisses. I use Sonido as my alternative T coil.

 Cable length

Posted by Roy Fox

Good sound. I hope future development may reduce or replace the inconvenience of the length of cable and the size of headphones / stethoset.

 Conversation at home

Posted by Arthur Harvey

I have recently bought one of these for my wife who is somewhat more deaf than I am.She had been lent several by the local County Council and found this the best.I want you to know how excellent it is. Conversation in the home is so much easier. In church where there is lots of noise it's a help, and, listening to a speaker it's invaluable (providing they speak clearly!!).It's expensive compared to others but worth every penny. We'd recommend it to anyone.

I find the product helpful, but the volume is deficient in my case. The neck loop is very specific in its fitting position enclosed. I have noticed if the position is closer to the hearing aids there is a great improvement. Is there any reason for the loop being placed in the diagram position shown.

 Does what it says

Posted by Brian Smith

This product works very well for me. I can hear the TV perfectly - my wife says she can have the volume at a reasonable level for the first time in years. As secretary of my golf club I had problems hearing at committee meetings - using the unit on its own I rarely have to say pardon - please repeat that. An excellent and very convenient product - recommend it.

 Quick delivery

Posted by Sylvia Offler

Excellent service speedy delivery, good packaging. Product is good but the instructions should have been clear, especially how to open the battery compartment and hearing aids must always be in the T setting with a neckloop.

Met requirements at a reasonable cost. The person taking the order was excellent.

I'm disappointed. I expected it would improve clarity by enabling use of my T setting on my two aids. In fact it makes no difference at all, even when close to TV set. Also it has no directional effect.

Very useful device. However for use on in patients in hospitals a sturdier device for the stetoclips may be needed
