Old name, new purpose: why we’ve gone back to RNID

Guidance for nurses

As a nurse, you probably come into contact with people with hearing loss every day: the most common type of hearing loss is age-related and the average hospital patient is aged over 80.

This section of the website will help you to recognise when your patients have hearing loss and to communicate more effectively with them so that their condition doesn’t affect their care and outcomes. It also has practical information about the importance of maintaining patients’ hearing aids and tips for storing them safely on the ward.

The information in this section is the result of a two-year Nursing Practice Project, funded by the Department of Health and delivered by RNID in partnership with the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust. You can find out more about the project and its outcomes in our report.
