Humza Yousaf MSP urges Pollok's hearing aid users to drop in to charity's services

      29 August 2019

Humza Yousaf MSP is encouraging his constituents to drop-in to use a charity’s life-enhancing hearing aid support service.

The MSP for Glasgow Pollok visited a drop-in session in Pollok Health Centre to see Action on Hearing Loss Scotland’s Hear to Help team support people with hearing loss who would otherwise need to go to the audiology department at the New Victoria Hospital.

The service’s volunteers, Veronica Harty and Frankie Lydon, have been trained by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde audiology to clean and re-tube NHS hearing aids and inducted by the charity to provide information about assistive equipment such as amplified phones, TV listeners and vibrating/flashing alarms.

Humza Yousaf MSP said: "I was delighted to see the friendly and dedicated support offered by Veronica and Frankie, especially to people who are still getting used to their NHS hearing aids or have started using their devices again after leaving them in a drawer.

“I urge everyone in Pollok who could do with a helping hand to get a full understanding about how to use their hearing aids or sort out difficulties they are experiencing to drop-in to speak with the Hear to Help volunteers.”

Action on Hearing Loss Scotland’s Teri Devine said: “We greatly appreciate Humza Yousaf MSP’s support for our hearing aid support service which runs in Pollok Health Centre on the fourth Wednesday of each month.

“Our wonderful Hear to Help volunteers clean, adjust and re-tube NHS hearing aids to help local people to hear family and friends more clearly, and they are keen to welcome more visitors to the next session between 09:30-11:30 on Wednesday 25 September.”
