What does the Aged Veterans Project do?
The Aged Veterans Project offers information and support to veterans with hearing loss and tinnitus – and their families and carers – throughout Northern Ireland.
We focus on working with veterans born before 1950, although all requesting support will be given assistance.
The project is funded by the Chancellor, using LIBOR Funds. It runs until 2020.
Why do veterans with hearing loss need our support?
Hearing loss is a common health issue in the Armed Forces. Many veterans have been repeatedly exposed to loud noise from small arms fire, artillery, engines and other machinery, and explosions.
The 2014 Lost Voices report , collated by the Royal British Legion with our support, found that veterans under the age of 75 are around three and a half times more likely to experience hearing loss than the general population.
