Action on Hearing Loss was one of the main driving forces lobbying for free hearing aids on the NHS back in 1948.

Recently, we paid a visit to Action on Hearing Loss’ Library at the UCL Ear Institute and uncovered a wealth of material from the charity’s annual reports and Silent World magazine dating back 70 years. Here you can get a glimpse into the birth of the NHS and how our charity, politicians and the public were so passionate about making hearing aids available for all.

If you would like to learn more about hearing loss and deafness, the library has thousands of books, records and other documents at your fingertips. To make a visit call 020 3456 5253 or email rnidlib@ucl.ac.uk
