Richard Crisp, Director of Services at Action on Hearing Loss, said: "Action on Hearing Loss and The SDA share a longstanding commitment to supporting people who are deaf and have hearing loss and we are looking forward to fully engaging with SDA members and beneficiaries on our future plans.
“Action on Hearing Loss has already got a vibrant local presence in Brighton and Hove, offering diverse services such as care and support services, a resource room and a lip reading class and we are very excited to be reaching out to more people with deafness and hearing loss in the area and supporting them to live the life they choose."
Graham Sheppard, Director at The SDA, said: “After very careful consideration about the continuity and future of The Sussex Deaf Association the Board of Directors decided to invite Action on Hearing Loss to look into the feasibility of a merger.
“This approach was initiated because The Board of The SDA judged them to be the best fit to complement the services and community groups currently offered by The SDA. They have a number of groups for deaf and hard of hearing people in the area and deliver Care & Support Services from their regional office in Brighton.
“The Board of The SDA is therefore delighted to announce that the merger has now been completed and should like to wish all our former members and The Board of Action on Hearing loss all the best for the future.”
