      Why Do We Need This?

      People who have a hearing loss; people who are Profoundly Deaf BSL users or hard of hearing, do not have the same access to healthcare as hearing people.  This means that people with a hearing loss can suffer from poorer health. We can change this with your support!

      The aim of the ‘Gateshead Ambassadors Project’ is to make sure health and social care organisations understand the needs of people with a hearing loss in the borough of Gateshead and that services are accessible.

      Skills needed

      • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about issues affecting Deaf and hard of hearing people;
      • Friendly, reliable, approachable and enthusiastic;
      • Ability to listen to questions and to answer appropriately
      • Happy to work with a wide range of people.

      The level of commitment depends on the individual volunteer.

      Please note that this is a voluntary role and not a paid role. Action on Hearing Loss will refund volunteers their expenses for volunteers during their volunteering role.  Reasonable out of pocket expenses are reimbursed in line with Action on Hearing Loss policy.

      You will need to be able to travel locally to different places to attend events, whether by car or public transport.
