      Case study - The Cooperative

      In 2009 Action on Hearing Loss (known then as RNID) were selected as the Cooperative Group’s charity of the year. The Co-op beat their original target of £2million by 85% raising £3.7million!

      The success of this partnership must be attributed to the engagement of cooperative employees across all their sites. This empathy with the cause was evident in their enthusiasm for fundraising and volunteering - a staggering 85% of all employees took part in a fundraising activity. From book sales to bake offs, Santa runs to cycling – every event, big or small helped raise £3.7 million.

      How Co-op and £3.7million made a difference

      • 110,000 hearing checks took place in Co-op stores and offices
      •  53% of  Co-op customers felt more positive about  Co-op following the partnership
      • Part of the money raised  funded 3 bio-medical research projects looking into treatments for hearing loss
      • The majority of the money raised  was spent on our national Hear to Help service  - enabling us to provide practical support for people with hearing loss in their local communities. The Co-op funded 22 Hear to Help programmes across the UK which are still running today.
