The TwinTalk is like having a second phone line at a fraction of the cost and less hassle than having a new line installed. It is over £200 cheaper than installing a second telephone line in the first year alone.
Situations where TwinTalk is useful:
1. If you have a textphone or fax If you have a mixed hearing household you can have a dedicated number for your textphone and another for your telephone. Alternatively you could create a line for your fax and another for your textphone with TwinTalk directing your fax and text calls to the right equipment
2. Working from home If you work from home, or have your own business you will want to have a second telephone line so you can distinguish between private and business calls and answer them appropriately. TwinTalk helps create a dedicated telephone number so you can send all your business calls to one phone and your private calls to another.
3. When your kids use the phone a lot Are you fed up with answering your kid’s phone calls? TwinTalk could be used to create a "teen line" for your kids, giving them their own telephone number with all their calls arriving on their own extension phone, perhaps in their bedroom.
4. Any situation where you don’t want to answer other people’s calls Whether you have lodgers, flatmates or run a business where you want to distinguish between different types of phone call, TwinTalk can help. You may want to give friends one telephone number and family another. Perhaps you want to distinguish between your respective in laws? So how does it work? TwinTalk is used in conjunction with the low cost BT Call Sign Service (no more than £1.71 per month) allowing you to direct different incoming calls on one phone line to different equipment e.g. a fax and a textphone or a standard telephone and a textphone on the same line. You will only be able to make, or receive, one call at a time, as there is only one line, but TwinTalk will make sure that incoming calls are directed to the right fax, textphone, or telephone connected to your line.
When you register with the BT Call Sign Service you are provided with a second telephone number which by using TwinTalk you can assign to your fax machine, textphone or even a second telephone. When a call is received on the new number the TwinTalk will ring the textphone, fax machine or telephone which you have assigned to it. Two TwinTalk units are supplied in the pack. Each Twintalk unit is simply plugged into a telephone socket and the textphone, telephone or fax machine that you choose to use with it. Move the switch on the TwinTalk which you want to respond to your new Call Sign number and leave the switch on the other TwinTalk where it is and the attached equipment will ring to your existing phone number.
TwinTalk works on BT exchange lines and will only work on connections provided by other telephone service providers if they can provide Call Sign, or an equivalent service. Instructions for connection to Call Sign are included in the TwinTalk pack.
