National Pensioners Parliament

The annual National Pensioners Convention (NPC) Pensioners Parliament is widely regarded as one of the most important activities in the pensioner movement’s calendar. There is nothing else like it in the country and this year Action on Hearing Loss have an information stand there!

This year’s NPC Pensioners’ Parliament will take place from 19-21 June 2012 at Winter Gardens, Blackpool, FY1 1HW.

Attending the event

This event is for staff from Porton Down (MOD) in Salisbury. This will include military and civilian staff members. The Occupational Health Department will be there to try and gain more information from the companies.

This year, Deaf Awareness Week will be held from Monday 7 – Sunday 13 May.

Action on Hearing Loss will be hosting a number of stands such as this during the week to fundraise, raise awareness and provide information about deafness, hearing loss and tinnitus.

Drop in service

This stand is for healthcare staff plus all patients coming in and out of the hospital, their families and support networks. However, whether you are someone with deafness or hearing loss, or just interested in these issues come along and visit the stand.

Visitors can drop in and find information, leaflets and factsheets. There will also be information about the audiology department’s services.

The information table for this stand will be in the main entrance area of the hospital entrance

The stand will then be left in situ, un-manned, at Weston for the Wednesday and Thursday
Representatives from Action on Hearing Loss will be on the stand all day on Tuesday 8 May and from 09:30 - 12:30 on Friday 11 May 2012

Preparing for College?

Action on Hearing Loss Scotland ‘On the Move’ Transitions Project, which is funded by The Big Lottery Fund, is working with City of Glasgow College to deliver a 5 day College preparation course for young deaf and hard of hearing people aged 16-25 living in Central Scotland.

The Course will take place on 18 to 22 June in the College and will give those thinking about College a chance to experience what being a student is like as well as the opportunity to find out more about College, how it differs from school and what support is available.

Hearing check campaign during 2012 deaf awareness week

Action on Hearing Loss Wales will be giving you the opportunity to check your hearing during Deaf Awareness Week, to help you take action and learn more about deafness and hearing loss and discover the truth about tinnitus.

This campaign will be running throughout the whole of Deaf Awareness Week, which is from Monday 7 – Sunday 13 May 2012.

203 pharmacies will hand out more than 200,000 'take our hearing check' postcards and pharmacists will be given communication tips to help them communicate effectively with their deaf and hard of hearing customers.

Whether you are someone with deafness or hearing loss, or just interested in these issues, this campaign is a great chance to learn more about your hearing and get help or advice from Action on Hearing Loss.
