Action on Hearing Loss Cymru is appealing to the community in and around Caernarfon to join in a sponsored ‘stroll-athon’ which will help raise much needed funds to change the lives of people who are deaf, have a hearing loss or tinnitus.
The event will take place in the evening of Wednesday 17th August, and will be a flat, circular 5.5 mile walk along the Caernarfon Foryd, with an optional stop off for a tour of the historic and picturesque Llanfaglan Church on the way. The walk will start at 5:00pm and take approximately 3 hours with breaks. Strollers should meet to register at the Action on Hearing Loss Cymru gazebo, which will be situated on Caernarfon Maes.
The Stroll-athon has been arranged to coincide with the arrival of a small convoy of cyclists - headed by Action on Hearing Loss Director Richard Williams - who will have set off that morning, from Holyhead on Anglesey to complete a gruelling cycle ride along Lon Las Cymru - the Welsh National Cycle route - that will end 256 miles and 5 days later in Cardiff Bay.
The whole event has been organised to mark the centenary of Action on Hearing Loss (formerly RNID) which turned 100 on 9th June this year.
Richard is hoping that the people of Caernarfon will rally around and join in the evening walk.
“The cycle ride is a tough challenge, but if I can raise much needed funds and the general profile of Action on Hearing Loss Cymru and the fantastic work we do for people with hearing loss, then it’s worth a few aching muscles”, said 42 year old dad-of-two Richard.
“I really hope that the people of Caernarfon will turn out for the sponsored walk, and help me raise these funds”, he added.
