To tea or not to tea - that is the question at charitys new befriending club in the Shakespeare Centre in Peterborough

Posted on 09/02/2012

Action on Hearing Loss has launched another community-based ‘Hear to Meet’ befriending club to help reduce isolation for residents with hearing loss.

Hear to meet befriending clubThe new club will be meeting at the Shakespeare Centre, Shakespeare Avenue, New England between 11am – 12.30pm on Thursday 16 February 2012. The club, which will meet on the first and third Thursday of every month, gives people who are deaf or hard of hearing the opportunity to relax, socialise and share their experiences of hearing loss over a tea or coffee.

Project Co-ordinator, Sue Warner, says: “Hearing loss can be isolating – especially if you’re struggling to hear everyday conversations with friends and family. We’re delighted to launch our latest club to give people in New England and surrounding areas the chance to meet and make friends with others who understand how hearing loss affects their everyday lives.

“We already have befriending clubs serving residents with hearing loss in Whittlesey, Peterborough and Werrington, and we’re always looking for more volunteers with good organisational skills to help run them so please get in touch if you can help.”

Action on Hearing Loss will provide new volunteers with all the training needed to carry out the roles and expenses will be covered.
