Action on Hearing Loss Scotland trustee, Harry McQuillan, visited the Floral Clock in Edinburgh as part of our centenary celebrations.
Commemorating the centenary
Every year a charity or organisation with a special date or anniversary is selected and this year Action on Hearing Loss was picked to commemorate the centenary of the organisation.
Creating the floral clock involved the planting of around 40,000 plants and a lot of hard work on the part of the team who plant and maintain the clock. Since the clock was launched at the beginning of the summer thousands of locals, visitors and tourists to Edinburgh have visited it and have found out about our centenary and our name change!
Oldest floral clock in the world
The clock is fully working and is believed to be the oldest floral clock in the world. The team at Action on Hearing Loss Scotland are urging visitors to Edinburgh to see the clock for themselves. The clock will be on display until October 2011.
A strong, colourful image to celebrate our centenary
Trustee Harry McQuillan said, “The first thing that struck me about the clock was the amount of work that has had to be done to create it. I think that it is wonderful that we have such a strong, colourful image to celebrate our centenary. The fact that the clock has been seen and photographed by so many people means that we are able to bring to attention our centenary and name change. It also gives people a chance to know that we are the charity taking on hearing loss and that they can find out more by visiting our website. Anyone visiting Edinburgh in the next month or so should take the chance to visit the clock if they can and enjoy what is a great piece of workmanship.”
