On Saturday 13 August 2011 Grant McAllister’s Rangers select took on friend Steven Keenan’s Celtic side at the Southside Invitational to help raise funds for Action on Hearing Loss Scotland and Kelbourne Nursery for Special Needs Children. A fantastic total of £2056 was raised by the team members on both sides with each charity receiving £1028.
Their trilogy is now complete as Grant and Steven have organised this event for the third year consecutively. The Kelbourne nursery is an ever present beneficiary for the boys and they choose another charity which has special significance, this year it was the turn of Action on Hearing Loss which is a charity close to Grant’s heart as his young cousin was born profoundly deaf.
On to the game and it was Grant McAllister's Rangers side who claimed victory at Toryglen Regional Football Centre, Glasgow. It was a victory that looked unlikely for long periods in what turned out to be a very even contest. Celtic saw the ball hit the woodwork no fewer than four times before the outcome was decided by a single goal, scored with only nine minutes remaining by 16 year old Chris Mudie.
Adam Kelly said “We really appreciate the efforts of all those involved with the Southside Invitational and we thank them for raising such a fantastic amount. A special mention has to go to Grant and Steven for organising the game. It’s great to see fans of rival teams coming together for two worthy causes.”
