MSP visits Hear to Help in Maryhill

Posted on 15/11/2011

Member of Scottish Parliament, Bob Dorris visiting our Hear to Help service at Maryhill.Glasgow MSP and vice convenor of the Scottish Parliament’s Health and Sport Committee, Bob Doris, has been visiting the latest Hear to Help drop-in service organised by Action on Hearing Loss Scotland (formerly RNID Scotland) which has opened in Maryhill.

The Hear to Help project offers frontline maintenance to hearing aid users across Glasgow. Action on Hearing Loss Scotland will organise free drop-in sessions twice a month at Room 118, Maryhill Health Centre, 41 Shawpark St between 14:00 to 16:00. The next sessions are on:

  • Friday 25 November
  • Friday 9 December

Trained volunteers will be on hand to give tips on how to maintain and adjust NHS hearing aids including how to insert their hearing aids, replace tubing and batteries. Visitors can also get advice on equipment that can make life easier in the workplace and at home. This essential support will help people hear more clearly and improve their communication with friends, family and colleagues. The launch of the drop-in takes place as Action on Hearing Loss celebrates its centenary year.

Bob Doris MSP said, “I am delighted to be invited to see the Hear to Help drop-in in Maryhill, I am sure it will be a big success. Having projects like Hear to Help in the area not only means people can have their hearing aids checked locally but also provides a social connection for people who are hard of hearing or have tinnitus. I know that hearing loss can be isolating but this project creates an important link in breaking down those barriers.”

“I wish Action on Hearing Loss all the best as it celebrates its centenary and every success for the next hundred years.”

Hugh Donaghy, Hear to Help project manager added, “We are really pleased to be offering a drop-in in Maryhill. I would invite anyone who wants assistance with their hearing aid or has any questions about hearing loss to come to the drop-in. Getting used to hearing aids can be difficult, and our volunteers will be delighted to help.”
