Award for Partnership Working in Scotland

Posted on 02/02/2012

Donna Mc Swiggan and Nada Kadhim with award.Action on Hearing Loss Scotland recently attended the Patient Experience Network National Awards 2011 in Birmingham, where their work with the Golden Jubilee Hospital was nominated in the ‘Environment of Care’ category.

The Hear to Help Glasgow project works alongside the Golden Jubilee Hospital to deliver hearing aid maintenance and support across various wards in the hospital. This ensures that hearing aid wearers are getting the best out of their aid, and can hear and understand clearly about the operation they are in for  and also any aftercare. It has also enhanced the levels of communication between hearing aid wearers and staff and visitors to the hospital.

The project received runner up place, and are delighted to have received such recognition on a UK national level.

Hear to Help Glasgow Project Coordinator, Donna McSwiggan said: “We are delighted to have been part of the Patient Experience Network National Awards 2011. Our work with volunteers providing hearing aid maintenance and support in the Golden Jubilee is innovative and something we hope to provide in all hospitals across Greater Glasgow and Clyde”.

Golden Jubilee Hospital Involving People Manager, Nada Kadhim said: “Working with Action on Hearing Loss Scotland to help deliver sensory impairment work through the hospital has been fantastic. It has greatly enhanced the service that we provide to patients with hearing loss, as well as improved staff awareness about issues for people that are deaf and hard of hearing.
