Action on Hearing Loss Scotland’s staff and volunteers ran a successful information event for staff at NHS National Services Scotland. The organisation provides overall management and support to the fourteen NHS Boards throughout Scotland. We worked with their Equality and Diversity Lead to raise awareness of hearing loss.

We got an excellent response from staff, with enquiries ranging from how can I support my son who’s got hearing aids in his studies? To how do I make sure that I don’t miss out at meetings.

Louise MacLennan, Involving People and Equality and Diversity Professional Lead at NHS National Services Scotland, said:

"The staff at NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) welcomed the opportunity to meet with staff from Action on Hearing Loss in Scotland to learn more about how you can be affected by hearing loss and what can be done to help and improve communication. The publications were very useful and staff commented on how helpful the communication tips would be for day to day business of NSS. Staff also welcomed the opportunity to have a hearing check and take part in the awareness sessions given."

Ken Nicholson, volunteer at Action on Hearing Loss Scotland delivered talks focusing on the experience of people who lose their hearing whilst working. He added:

"I used to work as the IT manager for a large engineering company. My job involved lots of meetings. I told NHS National Services Scotland’s staff about my experience of losing my hearing yet making adaptations so I could go on working."
