      Supported housing and living

A variety of different housing options, some with accommodation included – we call these supported housing, and some where we will help you to find and rent your own place to live – these are known as supported living services.

We are specialists in providing supported housing and living services to people who are deaf, deafblind and have hearing loss with additional support needs. We can support men and women over the age of 18 with a range of complex needs such as learning or physical disabilities, mental ill-health and people whose behaviour could be described as ‘challenging’.

All of our staff use British Sign Language (BSL), and our 'total communication' approach means that we will develop a personalised strategy for communicating with each person in the way that they choose.

      Supported housing services

Our supported housing services can offer you a safe and comfortable place to live, with the support that you need to be as independent as possible. We have a variety of accommodation including flats, bungalows and shared houses, each offering different levels of support to meet the needs of the people who live there. So some of our services may have staff based on-site and others have staff nearby that you can contact as and when you need them.

      Supported living services

These type of services do not come with accommodation but, instead, we will support you to find and rent your own home and provide the staff that you need to live there as independently as possible.

We do this by using a range of person-centred tools to find out more about where you want to live and the things that are important to you – and then support you every step of the way to help you find and rent a suitable property. Once you have found a place to live, we will talk to you about what support you want and need, and when you want it. You may only need a small amount of support, every now and again, to help you to get to know your local community, maintain your tenancy, pay bills and manage your finances. You might, however, need our staff to be there 24 hours a day to support you with all aspects of day-to-day life – from getting up and dressed, to managing your medicines, making healthy lifestyle choices, learning new skills, getting out and about and building social networks.

Whatever level of support you need, we will work with you to create a package of support based on what you want.

We already provide supported living services to people living in the South East, North and Northern Ireland but can set up these types of services wherever they are needed.

To find out more, download our Supported Living leaflet (available in English and Welsh versions) or, to discuss your needs in more detail, please contact us.
