Our Working for Change report makes recommendations to government, employers and people with hearing loss aimed at changing attitudes to hearing loss in the workplace.

In 2017 we published new research into employer attitudes to hearing loss. The research was based on a YouGov poll of business leaders, and interviews with people in business. It found that employers:

      • lack confidence about employing people with hearing loss
      • don't know about advice and support available when they employ people with hearing loss
      • aren't aware of the government’s Access to Work scheme, which can help meet the costs of reasonable adjustments to the workplace
      • aren't yet prepared to support an ageing workforce.

      Recommendations

In our Working for Change report, we've made recommendations to government, employers and people with hearing loss, as we believe that it’s by working together that change will happen. We're asking the government to develop an effective measurement of disability employment levels to track whether more disabled people are in work. We also want it to promote schemes such as Access to Work. We're calling on employers to introduce inclusive employment policies and practices, and to share knowledge of good practice of employing people with hearing loss.

Building on this research, we’ve produced a straightforward myth-busting guide for employers
