This report sets out our priorities for the Northern Ireland Government and what action needs to be taken across Government Departments to improve the lives of people with deafness, tinnitus and hearing loss.

Hearing loss is major public health issue that affects 287,500 people across Northern Ireland, and this number is set to grow as the population ages.

Our Hearing Matters report outlines the actions required by Government to improve the lives of people with deafness, tinnitus and hearing loss, on a range of issues, including:

      • increased public awareness of hearing health
      • compliance with Audiology Quality Standards
      • improved aftercare and rehabilitation for people diagnosed with hearing loss
      • full implementation of the Tinnitus Strategy for Northern Ireland
      • an increase in the number of qualified sign language interpreters
      • equal access to health services
      • specialist transitions services for young deaf people
      • increased awareness of the Access to Work scheme
