This practical guide for GP practices, produced by Action on Hearing Loss (formerly RNID) and RNIB, provides clear recommendations on how to improve access to the practice for people with sensory loss.

This guide was developed in response to our ' Is It My Turn Yet?' research report published in 2010, which highlighted a demand for practical guidance for GP practices to help them improve their accessibility for people with sensory loss.

The research showed that GPs had some way to go to meet their legal obligations to provide equal access to their services, under the DDA(1995). The feedback received from practices was that they lacked awareness of what steps they should take, and that they would welcome advice from RNIB and Action on Hearing Loss.

This guide was supported by the Health and Social Care Board and issued to all GP practices in 2010.
