About the role

To assist the outreach volunteer team in their activities including:

  • Attending 'clinics', updating and providing information
  • Providing support on deafness and hearing loss and promoting our work
  • Checking loop or infared systems in venues with hearing aids, Sonido listeners or loop checking equipment, reporting findings to the service provider and to us
  • Providing support to people with a hearing loss, their families, carers, community groups, schools and professionals.

This will help encourage independence and reducing feelings of isolation.

This role requires a full time commitment of 5-6 weeks from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm with the understanding that some out-of-hours working is necessary.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience Skills

  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about deafness, hearing loss, tinnitus, health promotion and about us and our services
  • Confidence in speaking to individuals, groups and professionals
  • Friendly, reliable and approachable manner
  • Access to car or alternative travel arrangements

Training

We offer full, on-going training for all volunteers including a one-day induction programme and further training specific to the volunteering role. Volunteers also have the opportunity to attend other information sessions.

Support and supervision

Regular support will be given by your Volunteer Co-ordinator. You will also receive informal support from other volunteers as you work together and attend each other's sessions.

Transport

A full driving licence and your own car would be essential for placements where public transport is limited.
