Technology is improving all the time and watching TV and videos online should be getting easier for people who have a hearing loss. However it is often an after-thought and subtitles are falling behind in areas such as HD television, non-terrestrial channels, online television, and major websites that show videos.

Live subtitles are also often of poor quality. We have a long way to go but are determined to improve access for people who are deaf or have a hearing loss.

What do we want?

It's about time people who are deaf or have a hearing loss got to enjoy TV and video content online as much as those who have no difficulties hearing. We want:

• To end the background noise which makes speech difficult to understand in programmes and films
• Subtitles to be available on more channels and programmes including 100% on the main channels.
• All major news and education websites to subtitle their video content.
• Better quality live subtitles

  Online video content is a huge area, so for now, we are focussing on 'television on demand', online newspapers, news channels and educational institutions which provide important information via video content.
