Help the Mayor of Camden fund a new Hear to Help service

Since choosing Action on Hearing Loss as his Charity of the Year in May 2011, the Mayor of Camden, Councillor Abdul Quadir, has been working with us to improve the lives of people with hearing loss in Camden. One in six people in Camden experience a form of hearing loss. You can now help the Mayor as he seeks to launch a Hear to Help service in Camden to support NHS hearing aid users.

Our partnership with the Mayor of Camden will help us achieve a world where hearing loss doesn’t limit or label people, where tinnitus is silenced – and where people value and look after their hearing.

Hear to Help

Helen Christophy having her ears checked by Action on Hearing Loss voluteer Johanna Taylor. Hear to Help is a community support service for NHS hearing aid users. It helps new users adapt to life with hearing aids and provides maintenance support to existing hearing aid users.

The project trains volunteers to show hearing aid users how to get the best performance from NHS hearing aids to help them hear more clearly, improve communication with family and friends and reduce isolation. Volunteers help users carry out basic maintenance such as replacing tubing and batteries and advice on equipment to help at home and in the workplace.

Hear to Help is a lifeline for people who live with hearing loss. It provides a support network and a place to socialise with others who share the same experiences.
