Employment health and wellbeing service

Please install the Flash Plugin We provide a wide range of services including employment advice, careers guidance, well-being programmes, training courses and volunteer opportunities for people over 16 who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus.

We also work closely with employment services, employers and training providers across Northern Ireland.
Action on Hearing Loss Employment Advisers will offer you the best advice and guidance if you are:

  • looking for work
  • searching for training
  • looking to build your confidence and skills
  • in transition between school and further education an employer seeking guidance on best practice

Employability Programme for Deaf People

This programme is funded by the European Social Fund and the Department of Employment and Learning along with the Disablement Advisory Service.

Our experienced Employment Advisers will offer you tailored advice and guidance if you are:

  • looking for work
  • already in work, but finding things difficult and need some support
  • wanting more training in essential skills or to get more qualifications to improve your future job opportunities
  • writing a CV or completing an application form
  • preparing for interviews 
  • looking for help to identify a training or further education courses in your area you are interested in
  • looking for expert advice on benefits
  • looking for the right benefits
  • wanting advice on government training schemes
  • needing information on Access to Work scheme.

Healthier Lives for people who are deaf or have a hearing loss

The Big Lottery Fund has provided funding to Action on Hearing Loss for the Healthier Lives project to improve the quality of life and opportunities for people who are deaf or have a hearing loss. If you take part in this project you will:

  • have better access to employment, learning and the world of work
  • know more about health issues, leisure and physical and mental well being
  • receive information and guidance that will help clients to improve their confidence and develop their skills.

We will do this through:

  • one-to-one guidance with a guidance adviser who will provide you with information on certain courses or careers and develop individual action plans with you
  • various health and leisure events organised by  Action on Hearing Loss
  • careers events for school pupils (year ten to year thirteen)
  • short courses on healthy living, employability skills and life skills

Connecting adults with learning

Action on Hearing Loss works in partnership with EGSA (Educational Guidance Service for Adults), to enable people who are deaf and hard of hearing to part in courses in essential skills such as literacy, numeracy and IT. Our Guidance Advisor will offer you information, advice and guidance on learning and career opportunitiesand are accessible to groups and individuals throughout Northern Ireland.

This unique cross-border programme is funded by INTERREG, managed by the SEUPB, and delivered in partnership with Deafhear.ie, the Royal National Institute of Blind people (RNIB) (external link, opens new browser window) and the National Council for the Blind in Ireland (NCBI).

If you live in a border area and have a dual sensory loss or hearing loss and are interested in any of the following, then this program is for you:

  • personal development
  • learning IT skills
  • greater access to libraries, banks and FE Colleges
  • access to benefits advice.

We will help you to:

  • access key services in the key sector organisations
  • use technology to access key services
  • actively take part in economic and social transactions with businesses and service providers.
