Policy and research in Northern Ireland

Policy and research

We work to create change by learning about and improving the experiences of people who are deaf or have a hearing loss.

We use research evidence to ensure that organisations put in place actions to improve the lives of people with hearing loss and people with tinnitus and to promote an understanding of their rights and best interests.

Research evidence underpins our campaigns work, our funding applications, our media work and more.

Tinnitus research

Our research team has been looking at how tinnitus affects people in Northern Ireland and what help is available.

Lipreading research

Lipreading is a vital skill for people with acquired hearing loss. This research explores the benefits of lipreading and access to classes in Northern Ireland.

Policy

We’re working to change the attitudes and engagement of the Northern Ireland Assembly, public bodies and service providers to improve the lives of people who are deaf or have a hearing loss.

Through our representation we aim to allow everyone to have their 'voice' heard.

We're always monitoring government policy and working with our partners in the public, private and voluntary sectors to inform and influence their policy making and service delivery.

We play a role in public body's consultations

A key part of our work is to respond to consultations from the Northern Ireland Assembly, public bodies and service providers.

By working closely with external organisations, we’re recommending practical steps that public bodies can take to ensure they offer equal access and opportunities to people who are deaf or have a hearing loss.

We can help organise consultation events and contact service users to secure their attendance and participation.
